Working with Purpose, our 2023 Vision

Happy 2023!

As I sit down to write this New Year letter and take stock of all that has happened in 2022, I am in awe of our small (but mighty!) team and the amazing clients who never ceased to amaze me with their tenacity and beautiful vision for how they want to positively impact our world. To everyone who was a part of Viscera Studio, clients, partners, and staff– thank you.

2022 has been a year of growth for us as a team, as creatives, and as amplifiers for our passion-driven clients. When we were planning for 2022 we picked our word for the year – effectiveness. And I think we have embodied that as a studio, team, and most importantly as partners for our clients. While there’s a lot that has happened this year that fills me with pride, one of the things that makes me most proud is that we have helped our clients to strategically grow their beautiful ideas without compromising on the things that are important to them. While there are probably too many milestones to recount here, I did want to share a few highlights of the year:

  • Just last week we opened In The Black, a shared marketplace for Black entrepreneurs beneath the iconic Fillmore Auditorium. Our client, the San Francisco Housing Development Corporation, entrusted us with naming, branding, designing, and managing the construction of this innovative retail concept housing 20+ Black-owned brands. See our process video here.

  • Although we grew and took on larger-scale projects this year, we still prioritized rest and self-care. We fully implemented a 4-day work week, so we can always give you our most rested, patient, and creative selves (you can read more about why here).

  • As we’ve expanded the photography side of our business, we have had some very exciting CPG clients join us, including Feve Chocolates and Purple Raina. We have loved working closely with our clients to take a concept and bring it to life!

  • WeWork featured our studio and the work we do to change who wins in business. Check out the video they made as well as the lovely photo shoot with the very talented Roy Beeson.

  • We partnered with many more mission-aligned organizations that we truly believe in such as ICA Fund Good Jobs, the Alliance for Community Development, LISC Bay Area, NASDAQ Entrepreneurial Center, ArtTogether, Oakland Art Murmur, En2Action and more.

  • Our work expanded to include tech clients such as Google, Twilio, and Createme\

Now, to look into 2023 and what is on the horizon, we have some big plans. As a team, we created our goals for this upcoming year and again chose a word to guide us as we navigate a new year. This year we chose the word purposeful. As we strive to have a bigger impact in our work, we know we are working toward a bigger purpose– we want to change who wins in business, in an industry where studios usually don’t look like us. 2023 here we come with some big plans and big visions. Thank you for being a part of this journey and we can’t wait to show you more. In the meantime, allow us to reintroduce ourselves with our new studio video below.

All the best,

Ari Takata-Vasquez
Founder & Creative Director
